Food Bank
The Native Village of Unalakleet has partnered with the Foodbank of Alaska to provide monthly food boxes to qualifying community members, delivered via air freight.
How to Qualify
You automatically qualify if you receive any of the following:
- SNAP — you automatically qualify for a monthly food box
- Medicaid
- TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)
- SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
- The reduced or free lunch program through Unalakleet Schools
TEFAP — Emergency Food Assistance Program
The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) requires an application to be completed once a year (October 1st through September 30th). Note: No food boxes are distributed in September.
Supplemental Food Bank
NVU maintains a small food bank providing approximately 20 boxes per month with no paperwork required. This program can also help your household with an emergency food box if you are struggling financially during that month.
USDA Local Foods Grant
NVU has received a 2-year USDA grant to purchase food products from local Alaskan vendors for distribution to the community — including reindeer meat, chicken, pork, eggs, and fresh vegetables (seasonal). Future additions may include beef and barley cereal.
