Tribal Enrollment

The Tribal Council of the Native Village of Unalakleet is the governing body of NVU and has the authority to make rules governing membership in the Community pursuant to Article II, Section 5 of the NVU Constitution.

Enrollment Requirements

To enroll in the Native Village of Unalakleet, you must meet all of the following requirements:

  • You are at least 1/8 Alaska Native or American Indian
  • You can prove descendancy to a Native individual on the tribe's base roll
  • You are not enrolled in another tribe or village (enrollees under 18 may have dual membership)
  • You can provide a copy of your birth certificate and social security card

Tribal members receive free health care when providing enrollment verification to healthcare providers such as Anchorage, Nome, and other village clinics.

Scholarships

Enrollment verification enables applications for local scholarships such as Kawerak Inc. and Bering Straits Foundation, and outside scholarships like the American Indian Education Indian Education Fund.
